The Usage of Wheel Bearings Protector

The wheel bearings protector is a small metal cap which fits into the center of your trailer's wheels. It is able to block dirt and moisture from entering your trailer's wheel bearings, helping make the bearings last longer. Trailer bearings stabilize the trailer's wheels and keep the trailer riding smoothly. The bearing protector is used to keep the trailer bearing free of foreign matter, which can interfere with wheel balance and revolution. It also provides an air-tight seal for the bearings.

Since it’s an important part to keep wheel bearings from damage, it’s necessary that you know how to remove or install the wheel bearings protector. The following steps are the instruction of removing the wheel bearings protector when you need to check the condition of wheel bearings and brakes:
  1. Lower the front of the trailer by lowering the tongue jack until the tongue is nearly resting on the ground or the jack bottoms out.
  2. Place two jack stands underneath the rear frame of the trailer, which is about halfway between the rear of the trailer and the trailer axle.
  3. Raise the front of the trailer.
  4. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel using an impact wrench or lug wrench.
  5. Insert a flat blade screwdriver between the wheel hub and the raised edge on the bearing protector to pry the bearing protector out of the wheel hub.
  6. Pull the bearing protector off with your hand.
